    Valarie Finkel

    PRODUCER

Valerie Finkel made her directorial debut in 2019 at the LA Shorts International Film Festival with her award-winning film, WAKING LIFE.  Next, she directed three episodes of the teen comedy-drama, ON MY BLOCK, for NETFLIX.

Born in New York and raised in the Washington DC area, Valerie got the film bug early on so she headed north to Boston University for her bachelor’s degree in film, and then west to Los Angeles where she earned an associate degree in theater at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Her path to becoming a filmmaker began with her learning as many aspects of the craft as she could; before stepping up to producing and directing, she had honed her skills in everything from production managing to costume designing to acting.  She spent years working side by side as a First AD with some of the top episodic directors in the industry on shows like CARNIVALE (HBO), DEAD TO ME (NETFLIX), GILMORE GIRLS(WB), AWKWARD (MTV), and SWITCHED AT BIRTH (FFREEFORM).

Valerie believes the consummate director is one who can walk in the shoes of all the members of her team.  The set is her happy place where she built her career in television and film.  Valerie is a graduate of the Netflix Series Director Development Program and a proud member of the Directors Guild of America.
